Father General celebrates the closing Eucharist of MAGIS 2019

In his homily at the closing Eucharist of MAGIS 2019, Father General thanked the pilgrims for having left behind their own comfort for traveling to Central America "to discover the immense greatness that surrounds us" and "to open up to that surprise over which we have no control”.

Coming out of ourselves "make us creators and transformers because we participate in the emergence of something new," Fr General explained. He thanked all the international delegations "for having made this journey without fear, without knowing what could happen; in doing so, they went out in the ways of Jesus".

During the offertory, the young people presented Father General with a letter explaining the situation of the Sitio del Niño community in El Salvador, which was affected by environmental pollution from a battery factory. They asked that this letter also be given to Pope Francis, who has promoted the care of creation, our common home. In addition, they presented basic grains and fruits from the Central American region, and a logbook that gathers the main fruits of the MAGIS experience.

Prior to sending the pilgrims out for the World Youth Day (WYD), Father General reminded them "that when we go out we risk encountering the way of the Lord that is not our own way". For this reason, he recommended that they ask Mary to teach them "how to accept the gift of life, of freedom and of the love that the Lord offers".

The Eucharist took place in the Gymnasium of Colegio Javier, in Panama City.
